I do not have stick to one soul time of subject matter when I work. I do, however; seem to stick to working on "darker" concepts. I like to use darker colors. If there is bright colors in my work there is probably some hidden "dark" aspect to my piece. The darker qualities I add to just about every piece is to keep some kind of theme and seems to be somewhat of a calling card of mine.
My work is not necessarily considered surrealism, but I enjoy adding "dream-like or fantasy" qualities to all of my work. I am not saying that I like to draw fairies or anything, but I like to add things that make my viewer really think so that they do not find themselves looking at my work with a glazed look on their face and moving on to something else. For example, if I was to paint a very light hearted piece with flowers and butterflies, there would probably be something ominous creeping up in the background. I like to use aspects such as those as focal points or points of interest.
Another thing about my work that people may not notice at first glance is that I try to incorporate a part of myself in all of my work. Whether it is specifically a girl depicted in the work or something I feel emotionally connected to, I will represent myself in my artwork. If I could summarize my work as a whole and represent it into something I love; I would see something beautiful like an owl clutching a rose depicted in deep colors.
